A town society is asking residents to nominate a ‘grot spot’ in Beaconsfield which will be cleared up during an anti-litter event to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Beaconsfield Society is spearheading the event across the town on the weekend of March 5 and 6 as part of a nationwide clean-up campaign to clear up the streets in preparation for Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday, which is officially celebrated in June.

The society is now asking residents to get in touch with them to nominate a place they would like to see cleaned up, with one nomination for Wycombe End, near the pond, already being submitted.

The council is also supporting the clean-up event by using a £100 donation from South Bucks District Council for a litter-pick that did not go ahead last year to buy litter pickers for volunteers to use.

Speaking at an open spaces committee meeting last week, Cllr Philip Bastiman said: “We are very happy to support this event and if anyone wants to come forward and take part and needs to use the equipment and The Beaconsfield Society is not using it, then we would be happy to help out.”

The town council green will be used by volunteers on the day as a “focal point” to put all the litter collected throughout the town.

Get in touch with The Beaconsfield Society and nominate a ‘grot spot’ on their website www.beaconsfieldsociety.org.uk or tweet them your suggestions @TheBecSoc.
