A teacher at a Beaconsfield school has won a digital award after helping to develop a course for teachers to engage pupils with the wonder of science.
Judith Revie, a year four teacher at Davenies School in Station Road, was part of a team that won an award at BETT, a leading education technology event.
The prestigious award was granted to Twig World, which creates teaching tools for the classroom, and Imperial College London for their professional development course, Reach Out CPD, which launched in 2014.
More than 7,000 UK primary teachers currently use the resource – over 20 per cent of all primary teachers in the UK and Twig World worked with a variety of teachers, including Miss Revie, on the project.
The aim of the resource is to boost the confidence of primary school teachers in science and, in turn, teach children a love and curiosity of the world around them.
Last year, a film crew came to Davenies to film Miss Revie teaching Science to year four boys, which also included capturing some of the discussions taking place within the classroom, the experiments undertaken and interviewing some of the children afterwards about their learning.
Davenies head teacher, Carl Rycroft said the school was delighted to learn the project that they had been involved in had won an award in the category for best Free Digital Content/Open Educational Resources.
He said: “Not only is this a superb resource for the classroom but, as a school, we are incredibly proud of Judith’s involvement in this, and of the boys’ contribution too.”
