Unsung heroes of South Bucks could be recognised for their contribution to their community as the nominations for this year’s Chairman’s Awards open.

The Chairman’s Community and Volunteering Awards 2016 are held every year to recognise the outstanding contributions made to communities by individuals and groups who voluntarily devote their time for the benefit of others.

There are six award categories – community champion, dedication award, good friend sports activator, voluntary group and young superstar – and winners and runners-up will be invited to the awards evening at The South Buckinghamshire Golf Course in Stoke Poges on Thursday, May 12.

The winners will be presented with engraved glass trophies, with framed certificates for the runners-up.

Winners in each category will also receive a GLL membership valid for 12 months which will allow free use of the ‘Better’ facilities in both South Bucks and Chiltern districts.

The awards, which are sponsored by GLL, are free to enter and are open to people who volunteer in the district and have not previously been a category winner.

Candidates have to be nominated through an application that showcases their commitment to the community - nominees should have worked in a voluntary capacity, or carried out work which is considered over and above their normal paid duties.

Chairman of South Bucks District Council, Councillor Duncan Smith says: "We know that South Bucks is full of remarkable people who regularly give up their own time to help others.

“If there is a group or individual who you believe deserves recognition then please nominate them for an award so that we can say thank you, and let them know how much their efforts are appreciated."

Nominations can be made online at www.southbucks.gov.uk/Chairmansawards, or email community@southbucks.gov.uk or call 01895 837306.

Deadline for nominations is Friday, April 1.
