The county that was home to one of country's finest authors may have just discovered its next literary star.

'Doug the Pug' is a six-year-old therapy and reading dog who has recently made the leap into the writing world and now has former Great Missenden resident, Roald Dahl, in his sights.

Doug - who lives with his owner, Cate Archer, in Beaconsfield - will be paw-printing copies of his new book, 'Doug the Pug - A Working Dog's Tale', at a shop in Gerrards Cross next week.

Normally he helps children and adults with problems such as anxiety and low self-confidence but, by em-barking on his latest adventure, Doug has proved you can teach an old (ish) dog new tricks.

Doug's owner Cate said: "Doug isn't nervous - he's taking it all in his stride. Anywhere that he gets a cuddle and some adoration suits him fine!

"He doesn't seem to suffer from nerves but he has been known to misbehave during a odd radio interview."

Doug works through the Saunderton-based charity Pets As Therapy, making weekly visits to pupils at Chalfont St. Giles infant and junior schools and well as residents at Pratt House care home in Amersham.

He will be 'signing' copies of his new release at the Gerrards Cross Book Shop on Packhorse Road from 11am-12pm on Saturday February 27.

All royalties from the sale of Doug's book will go directly to Pets As Therapy.
