A school in Beaconsfield is celebrating its 50th birthday this year with its own music festival.

Beaconsfield High School, in Wattleton Road, first opened its doors to pupils in 1966.

The school was built on the site of Butlers Court Farm alongside the Butlers Court primary school to serve the expanding population in the town and had 600 pupils in its first academic year 1966-7 - that number has now grown to more than 1,000.

Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Kent officially opened the school on October 3 1967 and since then, thousands of girls have studied there.

To celebrate their golden jubilee year, the school is hosting a number of events for former pupils of the school, including an alumnae event on Saturday, September 17 and a music festival, called Beckyfest, on Saturday, July 15.

After delving into the archives for the anniversary, a selection old pictures and documents have also been unearthed and are being pulled together for a display.

The school’s art department has also designed a special 50th logo in celebration of the important milestone.

Chair of Governors, Sarah Kucera said that in the last 18 months, the school has been through a “time of rapid progress and improvement”, successfully bidding for government funding to enable them to create state-of-the-art science labs.

A Facebook page has also been created for ex-pupils and staff to join in with the celebrations, find old classmates and teachers and get in touch with old friends.
