Visitors to Beaconsfield were greeted by the unusual sight of singing and dancing nuns on Saturday afternoon.

The nuns were actually actors from the Beaconsfield Operatic Society promoting their latest show, Sister Act the musical.

Members of the Society braved the wind and the rain outside Beaconsfield Town Hall, as volunteers gathered for the ‘Clean for the Queen’ litter pick, to spread the word about the show to residents.

The cast of 30 performers have so far clocked up more than 100 hours of rehearsal time, ready for the show to open at The Curzon Centre on March 16.

Bucks Free Press:

Many people will have seen the 1992 Sister Act film starring Whoopi Goldberg, but the musical is the same story but with a twist - reimagined in 1970s Philadelphia, with a completely new musical score.

Director Lesley Hart, said: “The biggest headache is the sheer amount of music for the nuns to learn - all part harmony and all choreographed. On top of that, with so many people in the cast and so many costume changes I’m hoping they will all get on and off stage in the right outfits.

“The ladies love being nuns. I’m delighted to be directing it – fabulous music, a very funny script, and a great sense of camaraderie for cast.”

There will be 7.30pm nightly performances between March 16 and 19 and a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets are now on sale – visit www.bosopera.com or call 01494 813 518.
