Beaconsfield’s MP Dominic Grieve will argue in favour of remaining in the EU at what is set to be a fierce debate in the town next month.

More than 50 people have already signed up to watch Dominic Grieve, Peter Chapman of the Liberal Democrats, Ian Brown from Business for Britain and Ukip’s Tim Scott battle it out at the Beaconsfield Brexit debate on May 5.

The event has been organised by Churches Together in Beaconsfield, who have also held hustings around the general elections in 2010 and 2015, ahead of the referendum on June 23.

Ukip had previously got in touch with the organisation to request a debate be held on their behalf on the referendum, an issue “they hold dear” and were keen to take part.

The Revd Dr Jeremy Brooks of Churches Together, said holding debates on key events is a “tradition” in the town.

He said: “They have always been well attended, with around 300 to 400 people coming along and the EU referendum is a very important event for everyone so we wanted to organise a debate on the issue.

“Our MP is strongly in favour of remaining in the EU so we wanted him to get involved to speak about staying in the EU, while other speakers will argue why we should leave.

“I think it will be a very interesting debate.”

The debate is set to take place on May 5 at 8pm in The Beaconsfield School Hall.
