Beaconsfield residents will be able to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at a beacon lighting ceremony this week.

The beacon will be officially lit by The Hon. Mrs. Jenefer Farncombe DL, Deputy Lieutenant of Buckinghamshire at Beaconsfield Rugby Club on Thursday (April 21).

More than 1,000 beacons will be lit throughout the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories to celebrate the monarch’s landmark birthday – with the first one being lit by the Queen herself.

Mayor John Read, who organised the Beaconsfield lighting event, said: “We have been awarded a slot in the national beacon pageant to mark the Queen’s birthday. In 2012 we had the diamond jubilee beacon lit at the rugby club so it seems sensible to maintain that tradition.

“The club house will be open on the night so people can find out more about the rugby club while they are there.”

Refreshments will also be on sale at the club, at Oak Lodge Meadow, Windsor End, and the event starts at 7.30pm.
