An intrepid group of teachers from a Beaconsfield school are preparing to set off on a gruelling challenge to climb three of the tallest mountains in the UK in just 24 hours.

Eleven teachers from Alfriston School in Penn Road, as well as three of their partners, will set off to tackle the three peaks challenge to raise money towards the school’s library refurbishment.

The three peaks challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis, the tallest peak in Scotland, Scafell Pike, the tallest peak in England, and the tallest peak in Wales, Snowdon within a specified time period.

The group recently completed two training walks in the area and a walk in the Brecon Beacons in Wales in preparation.

Maths teacher, Jake Van Den Bossche, said: “If you had asked me three weeks ago how I was feeling about the challenge, I wouldn’t have had any worries. Now that it’s just next week, I am a little bit nervous. The weather can be a bit unpredictable up there, but we are looking forward to a challenge.”

The group will set off after school on Thursday, April 28, ready to complete the demanding climbs over the weekend.

The money raised will go towards updating the books, furniture and storage in the library, with the intention of improving literacy.
