More than 100 visitors looked at plans for a long-awaited relief road in Beaconsfield last week.

Outline plans for the A355 relief road project, showing the proposed route between the Pyebush Roundabout and Maxwell Road junction, went on show at Beaconsfield Town Hall on Friday, April 22.

Commuters using the A355, which runs between Beaconsfield and Amersham, regularly get caught up in rush hour delays caused by ‘bottlenecks’ forming at a number of junctions along the road.

The traffic often backs up through London End, but the new relief road aims to cut the traffic through the town.

An off-road shared use footway and cycleway will also run the length of the relief road on the western side, with pedestrian and cycle crossing points included.

Extra crossing points will also be included on Hyde Green.

At the exhibition, Bucks County Council officers were on hand to answer questions and reported a "positive response" from residents about the plans.

A formal planning application to build the road is due to be made in the summer, and if approved, detailed design work will then start.

Tendering for construction will allow building work to begin in spring 2018, aiming at a spring 2019 finish.

Transport Cabinet Member Mark Shaw said: "We've been very pleased at the interest residents and businesses have shown.

"It's an important scheme and we're still open to feedback in the next few weeks as we head towards the detailed relief road planning application.

''We only get one crack at a major schemes like this, and we want to make sure we get it right, which is why we're listening to local residents and local groups who have good local knowledge that can help us avoid expensive errors."
