Two south Bucks students led a school team to victory in a prestigious engineering and technology competition last week.
Luke Cooper-Smith, 15 from Chalfont St Peter, and Zahir Raja, 14 from Gerrards Cross were part of the eight-strong LVS Ascot team who travelled to Siemens Healthcare’s HQ to present their award-winning concept on Friday.
The competition aims to motivate school children to look at careers in some aspect of science, technology, engineering or maths.
From a brief to come up with solutions to reduce the strain on the NHS, LVS Ascot’s winning concept was the ‘Mobimat’ – an inflatable moving mattress to avoid pressure ulcers.
The Sales Director of Siemen’s Healthcare, Steve Holmes, said: “LVS Ascot’s concept was a well thought through, high impact solution that demonstrated excellent research and team effort.”
The school’s design and technology teacher, Carol Robinson, said: “I am so proud of Luke, Zahir and all of our team for successfully putting into practice what they’ve learnt in lessons.”
