Queuing for a train ticket could be a thing of the past after mobile tickets were launched at stations across Bucks yesterday.

Routes to and from stations across the county on the Chiltern network – including High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Amersham – are now mobile.

The new mobile tickets can be scanned or validated directly from a smartphone which could signal the end for the orange paper ticket.

All flexible ticket types are now available as a mobile ticket on the Trainline App, for customers travelling between stations in the Chiltern network.

Using the app, the ‘live’ ticket updates you with personalised travel information such as platform numbers, changes to the service or delay information.

Dave Slocombe, product owner, Mobile Apps at Trainline, said: “We’ve been working closely with train operators nationally to make mobile tickets a reality for customers and it’s fantastic to see roll-out across the full Chiltern Railways network.

“The live nature of a mobile ticket in our App means that you can time your trip to the station to perfection, or relax in the coffee shop, safe in the knowledge of knowing exactly where your train is and exactly what platform you need to get to.”

Trainline hopes mobile tickets will be available nationally as part of meeting the Government’s desire to make the ‘orange ticket’ obsolete by 2018.
