UPDATE: Driver dies after suffering serious head injuries in M40 crash on Monday night

A man suffered serious head injuries after he was thrown from his car in a crash on the M40 last night.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway between junction 3 (Loudwater) and junction 2 (Beaconsfield) at 8.30pm to reports of a crash involving one car.

The car had rolled over on the motorway and ended up on the hard shoulder.

The injured man was taken by road ambulance to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries.

The air ambulance could not attend the scene due to bad weather.

Traffic was held at the scene for a number of hours, with closures between junction 4 (Handy Cross) and junction 2 and diversions in place.

The road was finally reopened after 11pm following crash investigation work by the authorities.
