Beaconsfield’s annual donkey derby is set to race into town next month, with a vibrant Rio Olympics theme.

Organisers are hoping for sunny weather as the popular racing event returns on June 25 for the 17th year in a row.

The event promises to be full of “summer fun” with a carnival atmosphere and Olympic Games inspired sports challenges as well as an Olympic torch parade opening ceremony.

The star attraction is set to be the seven donkey races, with the animals ridden bareback by brave ‘jockettes’ at half hour intervals throughout the day.

As well as long jump, netball, golf and tug of war challenges, keen tennis players can test their skills with a Wimbledon tennis warm up and Wycombe Wanderers football.

Children will also be entertained throughout the day with donkey rides, bouncy castles, stagecoach dance lessons, a find the donkey competition and a donkey hunt, as well as side shows, stalls and other attractions including nails and tattoos or hook a duck.

For the adults, there will be a bar tent with beers, lagers and Pimms and a barbecue, as well as tuck stall, cake stall and tea and coffee.

The event is being organised by the Beaconsfield Lions Club along with St Mary and All Saints School on Maxwell Road, where the Derby will be held from 12pm until 3.30pm.

All proceeds, including the £2 entry fee for adults, will go towards the school and Beaconsfield Lions Club local charities.
