Dance, music and drama were the order of the day for a group of students from Bourne End Academy who wowed judges and a large audience as they scooped four prizes at a recent event.

Celebrating their tenth year involved in the Rock Challenge initiative, the performers geared up for the Southern Premier Final – which will be held in Portsmouth this June – by taking to the stage in Stevenage.

The school was eligible for premier awards of excellence and received accolades for Visual Enhancement, Costuming Character, Drama and Lighting.

In a bid for success, the group choreographed their own version of Alice in Wonderland, and twisted elements into their theme of ‘Malice’.

Rock Challenge was introduced into the UK in 1996 with the aim of helping young people enjoy school and live proactive lives free of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs.

The “Be Your Best Foundation” is the facilitator of the production, and their chairman George Cooil praised all involved in the performances.

He said: “What a fantastic and memorable evening. The talent and creativity displayed by every young person involved was outstanding.

“It is really rewarding to see how the youth of today can flourish in a 100% drug, tobacco and alcohol free environment.”
