A 25-year-old mystery was solved this week after an American Bucks Free Press reader finally discovered the origins of his treasured poster that he picked up when travelling through Bucks.
Having read the news about the renovation of The Old Bell pub in Wooburn Green on the BFP website last week, Michael Sweet got in touch to ask whether the historical pub was the very same in his poster – unfortunately, not.
After putting an appeal out for more information the New Hampshire resident’s art work was actually revealed to be a hotel in Hurley village, Berkshire.
The picture, which he purchased for £5, shows a Triumph parked outside Ye Olde Bell – similar to the well-known Wooburn Green establishment which was also recently converted into a hotel.
Wycombe resident Dennis Hunt said: “The picture shown is of the Old Bell hotel at Hurley village Berkshire, currently a popular hotel, restaurant and wedding venue.
“Very popular for many years, along with the "East Arms" which was nearby at the junction with the Maidenhead/Henley road, sadly now redeveloped. Many happy memories!”
David Wiltshire said: “The pub you suggest might be The Old Bell at Wooburn Green is not like it at all.
“I suggest that it is the hostelry of the same name at Hurley, so not that far away.”
