More than 2,500 people watched a record-breaking annual village sports festival in Wooburn Green at the weekend.

The large crowds headed to Wooburn Park, in Town Lane, early on Saturday morning to watch the largest amount of teams ever to play in the tournament take to the pitch.

Exactly 150 six-a-side teams were invited to take part in Sportfest 22 – held across 11 football pitches – with a series of awards given to the winning teams.

Compere and host for the day, Dave Kimber, praised the volunteers who organised the event and said the “brilliant” weather helped make the event more successful.

Bucks Free Press:

He said: “It went incredibly well and it’s always so good to see so many teams take part and so many people coming out to watch them.

“This is only the 12th year I have been involved in the event and it is just getting better and better.”

A special award was given to village resident Ken Murphy who is due to step down from organising the event having been involved in the competition since its inception in 1993.

Mr Kimber said: “This event simply wouldn’t continue going if it wasn’t for people like Ken. The volunteers are brilliant and special praise should go to Sarah Ralphson too.”

As well as the main event of the football, there were also a number of activities for spectators to get involved in, as well as many refreshment stalls.
