A man took on the endurance test of his life as a poignant way to mark the birthday of his late mother.
David Waine took part in a half marathon and gym challenge of 1954 repetition workouts, to commemorate the year his mother Hilary Daniel was born.
Mr Waine has since said he was shocked at the level of support he received from members of the public, with one kind stranger even taking the day off work to help him through the challenge.
His mother passed away last year after suffering from a very rare form of cancer called a Sarcoma – he has now raised more than £1,500 for Sarcoma Trust.
He said: "I started with an hour and a half session in the gym. I did 1954 reps to mark her birthday and then did a half marathon.
"Luke Studden helped me along all the way, going through exactly the same workout and run, despite us never meeting before.
"I decided I wanted to try and do something to raise money for charity and take part in a challenge on her birthday, rather than sitting down all day and being upset."
Mr Waine’s challenge started at CrossFit gym in Bourne End.
