A pub in Bourne End celebrated Halloween with a pumpkin carving competition last night.

Yesterday (October 31), chef-proprietor Chris Grego, and his wife Grace, celebrated their three year anniversary at The Walnut Tree Bourne End with a fun event, inviting customers and their families to carve Halloween pumpkins.

The pumpkins were displayed outside the pub and participants entered their annual competition for all ages.

The judging panel included Barrie Penfold and Debra Aspinall from community magazine Target, Lindsay Blaikie a teacher from Claytons Combined School, Lande Brown from Holy Trinity School, Cookham and Penny Hampson from St. Paul’s C of E School in Wooburn Green.

Seven-year-old Lewis Balbini was praised by the judges for his aggressive classic face design and won the under 10s category.

Maddy Williams, 11, wowed the judges with her flying witch and castle design in the 11-16 category, while Robert Webster won the adult category for the second year running with his trio of homegrown pumpkins.

The judges chose each winner based on originality, carving technique and overall appearance.
