Line markings will be “refreshed” in a busy Bourne End road and a charity donation will be made after a council worker was pictured parking in a disabled bay.

Last month, the Bucks Free Press told how Chris Drummond, who is registered disabled and a cancer patient at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, had attempted to park in a disabled bay along The Parade but found a van – emblazoned with the Transport for Bucks (TfB) logo - was already taking up the space.

After parking his car behind the van and heading off to a meeting, Mr Drummond returned to find his vehicle had been towed away after police were called to the scene, leaving him with a £150 release fee.

“Aggrieved” at the “arrogant and dismissive” council worker’s actions, Mr Drummond wanted Bucks County Council to “cough up” and pay the £150 costs, or at least make a donation to Cancer Research UK.

After a TfB investigation, it has now been confirmed that a donation will be made to the cancer charity following the incident.

Laura-Jo Stocks, a spokesman for Transport for Bucks, said: “We have investigated the matter and reviewed the images provided by Mr Drummond as well as those taken by our employee. He admits to parking in the disabled bay in error and reports that he apologised to Mr Drummond at the time.

“Thames Valley Police made the decision to remove the obstructing vehicle which was then parked on double yellow lines. The line markings in this area will be refreshed to avoid confusion and the occurrence of a similar incident in the future.

“As a gesture of goodwill, Ringway Jacobs, who run the TfB contract, will be making a donation to Cancer Research UK.”
