PRINCES Risborough postal workers are going on strike this Saturday to protest against the delivery office move to Aylesbury Vale.

There will be a picket line outside the delivery office in Bell Street, Princes Risborough on Saturday from about 5am until 1pm.

The building has already been sold but post men and women who work in the town hope the delivery office could be relocated somewhere else in the town.

Despite a petition to keep the service, Royal Mail announced two weeks ago that the move to the Aylesbury Vale delivery office six and a half miles away is going ahead.

Local union representative, Andy Ball, who works at the delivery office, said they are going to strike on Saturday meaning residents will not get their mail until Wednesday morning, due to the two Jubilee holidays at the beginning of next week.

He said: "It is regrettable because the public have really been on our side.

"Royal Mail have come out with their flawed business plan. We have been left with no other option."

He said since Royal Mail bosses announced the move is to go ahead another suitable location has become available in Place Farm Way in Monks Risborough.

Andy said: "That's fit for purpose now. Not a lot really needs doing to it.

"Hopefully the strike will at least get them to look at that location."

Nor will anybody else in the country either?? I'm afraid striking is not going to make the slightest difference.

Indeed - these days, it's hard to know if I'm not getting my post because they are on strike, or didnt get around to my house on the round, or not actually having any post that day. A days strike isnt going to make a blind bit of difference to me. If I want reliable postage, I'll courier - as usual!

It's quite alarming the number of local delivery offices that are closing weekly across the country. You have my support in striking ..I know you are trying to preserve the service for the public. Sadly I think 'Moya the Destroyer' has her agenda as well and aint nobody gonna like it !

I can't see going on strike is going to stop Royal Mail. Why has the town council gone very quiet with regards to this issue. There has been nothing on the town council web site since they went for tea and cakes with the speaker.
Is it because the developer that purchased the sorting office is the same developer that offered to put forward the money for the town council to purchase the Legion in Risborough.
But I'm sure the Mayor and some councillors will want to be outside the sorting office on Saturday so that they can have there picture in the BFP.

I am work at this office and I am on strike this saturday, staff feels this is all they can do know. Would could have gone on strike much earlier but agreed to work with royal mail.

However at meetins attending by local officials, Royal Mail Management have ignored the CWU, presented flawed figures and on two different occasions and even sold the building for £625k before even announcing this closure.

Why can't they move to just down road? Local business will now have to travel over 16 miles round trip every day to collect PO box post.

So Moya Green n Co say this is improving customer service, what a load of rubbish.

More action will follow if we are forced to move

Royal Mail Delivery staff haven't been on strike for a long time now, plus if royal mail are sold off your get post once a week now that will make you moan.

To be frank, it's not far off of that now, so I wouldn't see much difference. Obviously it's not the workers fault, and I sympathize with their cause - RM is just not the reliable company it used to be. Spiralling costs, and lack of investment mean I can't rely on RM, at least not for the standard 1st and 2nd class services, so I take my business elsewhere.

Maybe if it arrives once a week it will be more reliable.

The quicker RM is sold, and a reliable company takes over the better.
