Sainsbury's to open Flackwell Heath store this week

Sainsbury's to open Flackwell Heath store this week Sainsbury's to open Flackwell Heath store this week

SAINSBURY’s will open its new Flackwell Heath store on Wednesday – with the firm saying 20 new jobs have been created.

Dozens of villagers had opposed plans for the supermarket chain to move into the site of the Green Man pub on Straight Bit, fearing other shops would be forced to close (See related links).

But Sainsbury’s bosses will hope to dispel any negative feelings and have invited volunteers from Flackwell Heath Community Library to open the store.

Manager Mark Hussein, who grew up in High Wycombe, said he is looking forward to being part of the village community.

The store will include fresh and frozen produce, alcohol, lottery and an ATM.

20 new jobs compared with how many old ones lost? What is the net effect going to be?

Would Sainsbury care to comment on where these new 20 staff are going to park their cars? It appears they are not allowed to park in their own shop car park so what other shop car parks will they use?

What a strange comment... the Green Man didn't employ 20 people. Two owners plus a couple of bar staff max. Net effect = at least a dozen new jobs.

Yes, this is an interesting point. *Hopefully* most of those 20 new employees are local and hence within cycling/walking distance. That should have been a stipulation on them building the store with hindsight (although that probably breaks umpteen EuroLaws(tm) on Equal Opportunities...)

Rejoice, Sainsbury's has arrived. The Green Man was an eyesore and full of lowlifes, good riddance. They can drink in The Stag. The employees can simply park in the Old kiln Rd car park. Seriously, stop moaning about your first world problems!!!

Having lived in the village for 30 years and at one time or another drank in all the past pubs, to my recollection The Stag has never had the Lowlife clientèle of the Village especially at present. That type of villager would be far better suited to the tip's or Green Dragon. As for parking why be different from any other lazy B**tard and park in the old doctors surgery or just on the double yellows next to Budgens! obviously as a community we have lost the ability to walk the 100yds from the CAR PARK to the shop.
