A man was repeatedly punched in the face and his car damaged after overtaking a horse and trap in Chalfont St Peter.

The victim suffered swelling to the side of his face and a cut on the inside of his mouth after the attack, which happened on January 11.

The victim was driving behind a horse and trap that was racing on the A413 at 9.55am.

After overtaking the horse and trap, the victim was followed by another vehicle which rammed into the back of his car.

After the victim and the offender pulled over and got out of their vehicles, the victim was pushed and punched in the face several times.

The injured man then managed to get back into his car and drive away.

It is believed the offender and those taking part in the horse and trap racing are known to each other.

Since the incident occurred, police have patrolled the road to try and combat illegal pony and trap racing.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after the assault and anyone with information should contact investigating officer PC Marguerite Seale, of Amersham police station, on 101.
