A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a pensioner who was involved in an incident at a zebra crossing in quiet south Bucks village on Friday evening.

A 69-year-old man died at his home in Lansdown Road, Chalfont St Peter at around 1.45pm on Monday.

The death is believed to be linked to an incident in Market Place, Chalfont St Peter - approximately five minutes walk from Lansdown Road - on the previous Friday (November 6).

A 70-year-old man from Gerrards Cross and a 43-year-old man from Hillingdon were arrested on suspicion of murder this morning and are both currently in police custody.

Thames Valley Police said the victim was walking home along Market Place at around 8.45pm on Friday when he crossed the road on a zebra crossing in front of a car.

The driver of the vehicle stopped the car at the zebra crossing and an altercation took place between the driver and the victim.

The offender then got back into the car, believed to have been a white Skoda Yeti, and drove away towards Gerrards Cross.

The victim sustained a number of injuries and was taken to Wexham Park Hospital for treatment. He was discharged but later died at his home.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have seen the assault or who has any information about the incident.

Det Chief Insp Simon Steel from Major Crime at Aylesbury police station said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation but one of our lines of enquiry at this stage is that the victim sustained injuries during an assault on Friday afternoon, which may have played some part in his death three days later.

“I would urge anyone who saw the incident in Market Place, who has not already spoken to police, to contact us as soon as possible.

“Officers are in Chalfont St Peter making enquiries today, and anyone who has any information, or who has any concerns, should speak to them or call 101.

“Thank you to the residents of Chalfont St Peter for their assistance and patience during this distressing time.”
