A supermarket in Chalfont St Giles was targeted by a masked gang during a late-night ram-raid on Wednesday.

About 11.30pm, a 4x4 vehicle reversed into the Co-op store in High Street, causing extensive damage.

Police say four to six masked intruders then entered the shop, which was closed at the time, and removed case cassettes from within the cash machine. The machine itself was left behind.

A vehicle, believed to a have been involved, was recovered from nearby Chesham Road and will now be forensically examined.

Officers believe the raiders made their getaway in another vehicle – possibly a black Audi.

Det Con Antony Mee said: “I am appealing for any witnesses who may have seen or heard what happened to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“They may hold vital information which could assist with our ongoing investigation.

“Thankfully, nobody was injured during the pre-planned crime although extensive damage has been caused and cash stolen.”

He added: “This incident is being linked to two other similar offences which have occurred over the past few weeks.”
