Outstanding citizens of Chesham were honoured at the 2015 Mayoral Awards at the Town Hall.

Volunteers and businesses who have supported charities in the town and gone the extra mile to make Chesham a better place to live were rewarded on Thursday.

The People's Award was handed out jointly to two people after judges were unable to split them.

Claire Rooney received the award for her work in co-ordinating 200 volunteers and businesses in just five weeks to set up the Toy Bank, which provided Christmas presents to 250 of Chesham's poorest children.

The other joint winner was Stirling Maguire, who organised the project to restore the 18th century town bell to the tower in Market Square in time to play a part in the centenary commemorations of World War One.

The other nominees for the award were St Mary's churchwarden Jacky Russell, volunteer Allen Tilbury and Chesham in Bloom chairman Vince Crompton - who became an Honorary Freeman of the town at the award ceremony at the Annual Town Meeting.

Brazil's Cafe was voted winner of the Business Award for supporting charities in Chesham, including the town's MS Group, which regularly holds meetings there.

Also nominated were Ahead Tuition, for running free workshops to help children of all educational abilities, Ink Link for its support for The Theatre Shed, and Global Infusion Group and Orbitpress for their work supporting the Chesham Toy Bank.

The awards were handed out by Cllr Mo Fayyaz, in his last act as mayor before handing over the chains to Cllr Peter Hudson.
