A Chesham resident was treated like royalty as she celebrated her 100th birthday with two parties, last week.

Hilda Hunwick said the best part of her celebration was receiving a card from the Queen and was happy to recall the big changes she has seen during her lifetime.

With two cakes and two parties, Mrs Hunwick 100th birthday left a big impression on family and friends.

She said: “I feel like the Queen myself because I’ve had two birthday parties – it’s been wonderful to celebrate with all my family.

“I’ve seen a lot of change in my life, but the biggest have to be the invention of the television and money changing from shillings to pounds.”

She added: “Everybody asks me what my secret is and I think it’s just living as stress free a life as possible – I try not to worry about anything.”

Mrs Hunwick lived in Millwall on the Isle of Dogs for 87 years before moving to Chesham in 2002 to be closer to her son, Raymond.

Since moving to Chesham Leys, care home staff say Hilda has had a “real impression” on everyone she meets.

Care home manager, Sharon Lamb, said: “Everyone had a fantastic day celebrating with Hilda and her family, she really did have a birthday to remember.

“Hilda has been telling us that she doesn’t feel 100 and doesn’t know where the years have gone. We all wish her many more happy birthdays.”
