A dead body has been found during the search for a missing 79-year-old man.

Detectives believe the body is that of William Purcell who went missing from his home in Chesham on Sunday lunchtime.

The circumstances surrounding the tragedy are not being treated as suspicious.

His body was discovered late last night on land near Botley Road.

No formal identification has yet taken place, but police have confirmed that the pensioner's next of kin have been informed.

In a statement, Thames Valley Police said: "Our thoughts are with them at this sad time."

They added that they were thankful for the help of the public and the media in the search for the missing man.
