A man arrested on suspicion of murdering a pensioner in Chesham has been bailed after post mortem results proved inconclusive.

Investigations are still ongoing into the death of the 68-year-old – now formally identified as Linda Harding – after her body was found at home in Stoney Grove on Thursday.

Police officers were called to the address at 11.27am and launched a murder investigation after discovering the woman’s body.

A 41-year-old man from Chesham was arrested on suspicion of murder, but has now been released on police bail until March 1 next year.

It comes after yesterday’s post mortem proved to be inconclusive. Detectives say further reports have been requested, but it may take several months to complete.

Senior investigating officer, Det Insp Dave Hubbard said: "I would like to continue to reassure the local community that this is an isolated incident and that we are conducting a meticulous investigation to establish the cause of death.

"Our thoughts are with the family of Linda Harding at this extremely difficult time for them.

"Local residents might see an increased police presence in the area while we conduct our enquiries and a scene watch remains in place in Stoney Grove."

Following Ms Harding’s death, neighbours paid tribute to her, revealing their shock at the death which had rocked the town.
