WYCOMBE Wanderers cancelled the start of pre-season training yesterday, sending text messages to their players telling them to stay at home.

The Blues had no manager to take the session and no assistant manager either after sacking Steve Brown in a cost-cutting measure on Friday.

Boss Paul Lambert is away on holiday for the next two weeks and with Brown having been shown the door, the club texted the players to tell them the first day of pre-season training had been put back to Thursday.

First team ace Russell Martin said: "Me and Matt Bloomfield got back from holiday and received a text from the club saying training had been put back to Thursday.

"We were also sent a text message saying Brownie had left the club."

New signing, keeper Scott Shearer was one of four new faces expecting to meet up with their new team-mates for the first time.

He said: "I'm looking forward to getting started and meeting everyone, and working with the goalkeeping coach, John Granville.

"He is one of the main reasons why I wanted to join Wycombe.

"He is very specific, knows exactly what needs to be done and I believe he can really take me on to the next level.

"When we played against Wycombe he was always talking to the goalkeeper and the work he did with them before games really impressed me.

"But there's no rush. I'll stay in Glasgow with my family for a few more days and work on a few little things by myself, but the real work starts on Thursday."

Wanderers' managing director Steve Hayes said: "We've got quite a few people missing and we decided to leave it until Thursday."

Brown's departure was announced just four days before the players should have returned to pre-season training.
