TUBE trains between Amersham and central London could be cut from four to two an hour but more services would leave Chesham under new plans.

Transport chiefs say the cuts at Amersham are to offset the changes at Chesham, where two trains will run an hour into the capital.

At present this only happens during morning and evening peak hours. In the day passengers have to change at Chalfont & Latimer.

A four-week consultation on the plans, to take effect from next May the earliest, will start on Tuesday.

In a statement Transport for London said: "The two trains per hour service provided by Chiltern Trains, one train per hour on Sundays, would be unaffected.

"So the total number of trains from Amersham to central London would fall from six to four per hour, and from five trains to three per hour on Sundays."

Richard Parry, TfL director of strategy and service development, said: "We are looking at the option of changing service patterns on the Chesham and Amersham branch which we believe could be of benefit to many Tube users."

Travellers can respond by picking up a leaflet on the plans in the stations or emailing chesham.consultation@tube.tfl.gov.uk.
