AUTHOR Dan Freedman visited pupils in Bourne End to celebrate World Book Day and talk about meeting famous footballers.

The children’s writer met Year 7 and 8 pupils at Wye Valley School on Thursday, along with a class who had travelled down from Juniper Hill School in Flackwell Heath.

Dan, who created the Jamie Johnson series of football novels, used to work as a writer for the Football Association, meaning he got to meet some of his heroes and write the programme notes for the FA Cup final.

After the talk he signed books and gave autographs, while some pupils were able to participate in a reading and writing workshop with him later in the day.

A teacher at Wye Valley said: "It was a real treat. He was inspirational and completely engaging throughout. He effectively broke the reading stereotype, giving a clear message that reading is for everyone."

Well odne for the pleasures of the reading to children.
