Underprivileged children in Ghana had big smiles on their faces this month after a school in Gerrards Cross donated school uniforms for some of the youngsters.

The parents association [GPA] of Bull Lane-based Gayhurst School joined national charity AfriKids to help out the children at a foster care home in Northern Ghana.

A large bag of excess uniform was donated to them after a second hand uniform shop was setup at the school.

Over the years the shop has created a huge surplus of supplies the school said, and they recently decided to put this to good use by sending them abroad.

Gayhurst School director of admissions and marketing, Michelle Upton, said: “Gayhurst and the GPA are delighted that we are able to help in this way and that the children seem so pleased with their new clothes.”

The children all appeared happy with their new bright clothing as they played at the Mama Laadi’s Foster Care Home.

The home represents about one per cent of the children that AfriKids care for and in some of the most extreme cases, going home is just not an option for them.

The charity works as a child rights organisation in Northern Ghana to alleviate child suffering and poverty.
