A primary school in south Bucks is campaigning to raise more money to further enhance its link with a school in Zambia.

Carrington Junior School, in Flackwell Heath, established links with Zambia as part of a wider Wye Valley project and they are now eagerly awaiting the visit of three teachers from the African country.

Over the last five years the primary school has been linked with Zambia’s Libala Basic and Bourne End Academy, formerly Wye Valley School, are linked with Libala High.

Students and teachers have visited the schools in Zambia over the years and is now raising money to fund the latest trip with teachers coming to Flackwell Heath.

Deputy headteacher, Jane Gardener, said: “It is a really worthwhile project, we have a pen pal scheme between the two schools and when we were over their last, we did a makeover of their special needs room, taught in classes in the twin school Libala Basic and did lots of work with the Wye Valley pupils and the Libala pupils.”

Following a successful Frozen film night, where students camped out in the main hall to watch the blockbuster movie and sing-a-long, they are planning to hold two more mini events.

The first event will see students make cakes for a sale during lunchtimes while there will also be a ‘mufti day for Zambia’ on March 13.

As well as the two south Bucks schools, Bardwell Special School in Bicester has recently agreed to support the Chilenje Special Needs Unit which will further help the strong links between the two countries.
