A FIRE chief says a packed open day at Marlow Fire Station this weekend was the probably the best he has ever seen.
Around 1000 visitors flocked to the emergency station on the Parkway to watch demonstrations from firefighters and have a go with a high-power hose.
The charity open day saw around £2000 collected for two firefighter charities.
And watch manager Richard Boast praised his second in command for his excellent work in the build up to the successful event.
He said: "It was absolutely fantastic, it was probably the best open day I have seen in my whole career. It was busy from start to finish and we collected just under £2000.
"With all the kids and their families we must have had nearly 1000 people in total.
"Most importantly, I'd like to thank my crew manager David James. He and his family and friends put so much work into organising it.
"They worked their socks off and what he did for the firefighters is just amazing. It’s not just what you see on the day, but all the work behind the scenes too."
As well as the fun, firefighters used the day to teach valuable lessons to youngsters about the risks of fire.
Station crews carried out a carefully-controlled demonstration of how – and how not - to tackle cooking fires.
And hydraulic equipment used after road collisions was put into action to show onlookers the vital and varied role of the highly trained emergency servicemen.
