From a dog show to children’s storytelling in the woods, a special summer fete in Downley captured the imagination of hundreds of villagers on Saturday.

The annual summer showpiece of Downley Day, held on the Common, incorporates village businesses and the efforts of residents for a day of fun.

The event was officially opened by the newly-appointed King and Queen of Downley, with the winning children carefully selected after a competition was opened for youngsters to apply for the roles.

There was singing and dancing throughout the day, plus demonstrations from a judo group, storytelling and the dog show.

Downley Day is part of the month-long Up! Downley festival, with community groups full involved in activities over the next few weeks.
