War veterans were honoured at the annual Remembrance Lunch hosted by Marlow Town Council at the weekend.

Despite the rain outside, the atmosphere within the Higginson Room at Court Garden House was upbeat on Saturday, November 12, as dozens of veterans enjoyed the special lunch.

The lunch was a chance for the war veterans to meet up with old friends from across the Armed Forces, together with Cadet Commanders of the Sea Cadets, Air Training Cadets and town councillors.

After the Lunch, Wg Cdr David Riley from RAF High Wycombe, gave the loyal toast.

Stephanie Thieyre, councillor and deputy mayor from Marly-le-Roi, Marlow's twin town in France, was also present.

Mayor, Bob Johnson, said: “It is especially important to remember absent friends who have sadly passed away since our last lunch. Those we have been advised about are Mr John Abbott, Mr William Deveraux and Mr William Taylor.

"We remember them today as absent friends.”

He concluded by asking councillors and town council staff to stand and raise a glass to toast the veterans.

Shaun Murphy, Chairman of the Marlow Branch of the Royal British Legion, thanked the town council for the annual event, which is the only one of its kind in the county.
