A-lister Ricky Gervais was spotted at a new farmer’s market in Marlow as it opened today (Saturday).

The TV and film star was seen browsing the open market in the Causeway with his partner, best-selling novelist Jane Fallon, as it opened to the public, with all the money raised going back into the community.

It comes after the star and Ms Fallon reportedly bought a £2.75 million “little country retreat” in the town last year.

The market, which has been set up by Transition Town Marlow (TTM) together with the Marlow Cheese Company, will be held on the first Saturday of the month (except January), and the money raised will fund new projects in the town.

The previous TTM indoor community market raised almost £4,000, which helped fund the community orchard and football goal posts in Seymour Park, improvements to cycle paths and wildflower planting.

Opening the market, Deputy Mayor Chris Funnell said: “This market adds yet another important event to Marlow’s flourishing events calendar.

“This is a great new feature for the town and we hope people will support the market and enjoy all the wholesome local produce it offers.”

Marlow residents have spotted the comic out and about in the town frequently since his property purchase there.

He was seen buying a poppy from Marlow teenager Daniel Wallis-Banbury during the week of George and Amal Clooney's wedding party at nearby Danesfield House, and was also snapped out on the streets and with fans who shared the pictures on Twitter.
