The next location of the Government’s controversial garden city proposal is not believed to be in South Bucks.

It was announced earlier this week that Bicester could be next to receive 13,000 homes and this is despite national media reports earlier this year suggesting Gerrards Cross was in line to see an influx of development.

However, the Government have now earmarked Bicester for the development with a new railway also mooted.

In January, leading Bucks councillors stood up against the rumours and said any mass development within the area would be difficult because of the land which falls under Green Belt.

As speculation mounted, Bucks County Council leader Martin Tett urged the Government to clearly dispel all rumours of new cities being imposed on Buckinghamshire.

He said: “Gerrards Cross is in the Green Belt and county council policy clearly opposes inappropriate development in the Green Belt.

“We would therefore strongly resist any attempt to impose such a scheme, which would irreparably damage the character of the village and its surroundings.”

Ebbsfleet in Kent has already been announced by the Government to become the first garden city.
