Councillors will discuss whether or not to keep an earth bund which was installed as an ‘emergency solution’ to prevent travellers from setting up camp on a grassy area in Gerrards Cross.

The earth bund was created near Colston Court sheltered housing on East Common two weeks ago, with the hope of keep travellers from moving onto the area.

Travellers last moved onto the grassy area in September, but Chris Brown, chair of Gerrards Cross Parish Council said they were removed by court order.

Cllr Brown said the bund was installed in conjunction with Bucks County Council as an emergency measure, but says it could become a permanent feature.

He said: “We have had a lot of problems with travellers in this area before. About a month ago, some travellers camped there and they were moved on but they left a bit of a mess and it was quite intimidating for residents of Colston Court.

“There were about 12 caravans last time but we have had big numbers there before.

“The county council wanted to put a bund up and it was done fairly quickly because we thought there could still be travellers in the area. Had we realised there would be a problem, we would have done something sooner but the bund was an emergency solution.”

Councillors will discuss the bund at a full parish council meeting tonight.

Cllr Brown said: “We will look at the options because it is worth having the situation relieved.

“We could remove the bund or it could be permanent, or it could be a temporary solution. If it stays, it will be cleaned up and grassed over to make it look nicer.

“The Parish needs to discuss it but I feel they may want to keep it there.”
