After nearly eight years of clearing litter from the district’s roads, South Bucks District Council is set to remove its old street cleaning vehicles in favour of new environmentally friendly vans.
The new fleet of smaller vans and sweepers are fitted with the latest environmentally-friendly engines and latest sweeping technology with improved suction on the sweepers.
The older vehicles have suffered wear and tear over the years after clocking up thousands of miles clearing litter and tipping at landfill and are no longer economical to repair.
While some of the new vehicles have already taken to the streets, they will be officially launched on November 10.
South Bucks District Councillor Luisa Sullivan, Portfolio Holder for the Environment said: “Making the district a clean and enjoyable place to live is always a top priority for the Council and although our street cleaning teams do a really excellent job we’re always looking for ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.
“The new vehicles will be more efficient and new features on the sweepers will help us to keep the district clean.
"Most of the new fleet are already out and about making a difference in the district, with two more joining them shortly."
