A former Beaconsfield mayor who survived a battle with cancer will open a new charity shop in Gerrards Cross next week.

Graham Corney, who was also a town councillor, will officially cut the ribbon and declare the new Cancer Research UK shop in Packhorse Road open on Monday.

Mr Corney, 66, a director of accountancy firm Harwood Hutton in Beaconsfield, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008 following a routine medical.

The disease was caught early and following surgery to remove the prostate, he went on to make a full recovery.

He said: "I’m honoured to have been asked to open this lovely new shop.  It will be a great addition to the town.

“Shops like this one provide vital revenue for Cancer Research UK and help fund the charity’s groundbreaking work into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

"This research has helped save millions of lives and without it, thousands of people would not be here.”

The new shop - the 582nd in the country - needs donations of good quality clothes, shoes and bags as well as household items, books, CDs and DVDs.
