Pupils at a school in Gerrards Cross are enjoying their lessons in two new classrooms this term.

A new senior science lab and an art studio have been built for the boys at Thorpe House School.

The new art studio, which is twice the size of the old one, was created to meet the increase in the number of boys wanting to take GCSE Art and has 3D and ceramics work stations in addition to 2D and traditional art work stations.

Head of Art, Nigel Tomlinson has created three separate studio areas to give pupils quieter spaces to work in and the studio is located nearer the kiln.

Plans are also underway for a sculpture space at the back of the building.

The new science lab is the third in the school, in Oval Way, and will be mostly used for Biology lessons.

The lab has been built to accommodate the school’s move to a single science option, in addition to the combined science option that is already offered at GCSE.

Head of Science, Sue Jenkins said: “Both staff and boys are enjoying the new science facilities because not only do they provide a more spacious and comfortable working environment, we now offer all boys the option to study biology, chemistry and physics at a higher level.”
