A former Beaconsfield mayor who survived a battle with prostate cancer cut the ribbon on a new charity shop in Gerrards Cross this week.

Graham Corney, who was also a town councillor, declared the new Cancer Research UK shop – the 582nd in the country - in Packhorse Road open on Monday, November 9.

Mr Corney, 66, director of accountancy firm Harwood Hutton in Beaconsfield, was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 following a routine medical.

The disease was caught early and following surgery to remove the prostate, he went on to make a full recovery.

He said: "I’m honoured to have been asked to open this lovely new shop.  It will be a great addition to the town.”
