A parking consultation is under way in Gerrards Cross to try and stop ‘all-day parkers’ leaving their cars in residential roads before going to the catch the train.

Residents are being asked to comment on plans to introduce a variety of new parking restrictions in six roads – Bentinck Close, Bull Lane, Bullstrode Way, East Common, West Common and Layters Way.

Chairman of Gerrards Cross Town Council, Cllr Chris Brown, said the parking restrictions are needed to prevent parked cars blocking visibility for drivers and to stop commuters leaving their cars outside residents’ houses.

He said: “We have problems with lots of commuter parking blocking up residential roads, especially in Layters Way and Bullstrode Way. Residents are getting very frustrated with people parking outside their houses all day and going to the train station for work.

“We want to stop the all-day parking by introducing certain restrictions that will mean residents can park in their roads.

“We are also making some changes around the Commons to make visibility easier for drivers. For example, pulling out of the memorial centre. It will improve visibility and make it safer for drivers to pull out.

“We have done a consultation on this ourselves so we hope this Transport for Bucks consultation is just a formality and that residents will take part, give their feedback and it will get the go ahead.”

If the plans are given the go-ahead, ‘No waiting at any time’ double yellow line restrictions will be imposed on parts of Bentinck Close, Bull Lane, Bulstrode Way, East Common and Layters Way.

‘No waiting Monday to Friday 11am – noon and noon – 1pm’ single yellow line restrictions will be put in place on lengths of Layters Way and Bulstrode Way and a ‘residents parking only’ restriction will be provided in West Common.

In February 2014, Layters Way residents, who were concerned over dangerous parking by commuters using their road, pleaded with the council to have parking measures introduced.

Cllr Brown said parking in Gerrards Cross is a ‘big concern’ and would like to see more parking spaces provided throughout village.

He said: “Commuters don’t want to park in the station car park because it is expensive, so they park in a residential road instead.

“We need more parking spaces at the end of the day. We know our car parks are full, we have a big parking issue in Gerrards Cross.

“It is a concern that we are restricting parking because we know that people need to get to the station. I would like to see Network Rail to add a few more storeys to the station car park and lower the price of parking.”
