Children at a school in Gerrards Cross are learning language through the medium of football with the help of Arsenal Football Club.

Pupils at Thorpe House Prep have been learning Spanish outside of the classroom through a scheme called Double Club.

Year three pupils have been taking part in the initiative this term, with sessions led by GCSE Spanish students, with the aim of teaching the boys numbers, colours and animals in Spanish, while also building confidence in the language.

Teacher Mrs Del Arco, who is in charge of the scheme at school, said: “Arsenal Football Club, one of the greatest football teams in the world, offers a great opportunity to learn Spanish through football and thanks to our PE staff and our Year 10 Spanish students, our Year 3’s are really enjoying this initiative this term.

“It has been a pleasure to watch the boys’ excitement both in the classroom and on the pitch and their confidence when speaking Spanish has grown immensely.

“At the end of summer term we are planning a trip to the Arsenal stadium which will be a wonderful reward for the boys for all the hard work they have put into their language learning.”
