Carpet and flooring giant Carpetright is to open a store in Gerrards Cross next month, following the closure of a popular furniture shop.

Earlier this month, Carpetright, which has 460 stores across the UK including ones in Loudwater, High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Aylesbury and Slough, fuelled speculation that they would be moving into the town after submitting a planning application for two illuminated signs displaying their logo on March 11.

This morning, a representative for the company said Carpetright were “happy to confirm” that they will be opening a branch at 50 Packhorse Road towards the end of April, in place of Cargo, a furniture and homewares store.

In September last year, Cargo owners, Steinhoff UK, announced that they would be withdrawing the brand from high streets across the country during the first few months of 2016, according to Retail Week.

In January, the Bucks Free Press reported that a Gerrards Cross town councillor feared the town was going "downhill" because of the number of empty shops and called for improvements to be made to the high street.
