Three men, posing as police officers, burgled an elderly woman’s house in Rose Avenue, Hazlemere on Friday afternoon.

At around 2.20pm the woman heard a noise downstairs and was then confronted by the men who showed her what they claimed was valid police identification.

The woman did not believe the men, who were dressed all in black, were police officers.

They searched the house, taking a small amount of cash, before leaving the property shortly after the woman dialed 999.

Thames Valley Police say the offenders are white, wore black tops and bottoms - resembling police uniform – as well as black baseball caps.

One of the offenders was clean-cut, spoke with a local accent, was around 5ft 9ins tell and has a muscular build.

Det Sgt Simon Reid of High Wycombe CID said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim, however she did not believe these men and by calling the police she has appeared to scare the offenders into leaving.

“We would urge members of the public to always carefully check the ID of those demanding entry to their home and if in doubt about who they say they are then call 999 at once.”

If you have any information about this incident in Hazlemere or recognise the descriptions of the men, contact Det Sgt Reid via the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101.
