A total of 70 people were caught speeding along one road on what police described as ‘Black Monday’ last week.

Thames Valley Police and Chepping Wycombe neighbourhood action group took part in a joint community speedwatch programme to monitor speeding in different locations on October 26.

On the Penn Road, Hazlemere, 70 speeders were caught in one hour between 7.45am and 8.45am, on what PC Lee Turnham called 'Black Monday.'

New Road in Tylers Green saw 32 drivers going too fast between 9am and 10am, while Church Road, Penn had 38 between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

In Loudwater, 31 drivers were clocked exceeding the speed limit on Boundary Road between 11am and 12pm.

A similar operation in Flackwell Heath on October 19 saw 27 speeders on Blind Lane heading towards the village between 8am and 9am and 17 drivers speeding on the way out of the village between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Speedwatch does not have the ability to fine drivers, but hopes to educate drivers about road safety by sending out letters warning them about the dangers of speeding.

Roads policing have been operating in the area and have a speeding operation planned.
