A teenager from Hazlemere who posed as a woman on Facebook and used a fake account to meet up with a man has been convicted for blackmail.

Elliot Blair, 19, of Rushmoor Avenue, used a fake social media account pretending to be a woman and arranged to meet a 21 year-old man.

The pair met up at the car park at The Rye in High Wycombe at around 8pm on Februrary 6 last year.

Upon meeting, Blair wrongly told the victim that he had been speaking to his 15-year-old sister, before demanding that the victim pay him £200 and in return he would not inform the police that he had been speaking to an underage girl.

He pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday.

He was sentenced to a 12 month community order and 110 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £450 compensation to the victim as well as court costs.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Kim Woods of Force CID said: “This is an unusual case where Elliot Blair posed as a woman on Facebook and struck up an online relationship with the victim.

“Blair then arranged to meet the victim at The Rye car park in High Wycombe. However, when the two met Blair wrongly informed the victim that he had actually been speaking to Blair’s 15-year-old sister.

“Blair then demanded that the victim pay him £200 and in return he would not inform the police that he had been speaking to an underage girl.

“Thankfully the victim reported the offence to police and a thorough investigation was carried out which lead to the arrest and charge of Blair.

“I hope this case serves as a deterrent to other criminals who use the internet or other means to blackmail victims.”
